Dehradun: Kasiga School hosted the fourth edition of the inter-school folk dance competition Folk Vibes, showcasing a vibrant celebration of Indian and international folk dances. The event brought together students from leading schools of the Doon Valley including The Asian School, TonsBridge, Doon International, Vantage Hall, Shri Ram Centennial, Ecole Globale, Wynberg-Allen, and The Indian Public School.

The competition was judged by esteemed personalities – renowned Kathak artist and founder of Kathak Kutumb Vidushi Upma Shukla, Bharatanatyam dancer and founder of Laxmi Ateram Cultural Society Vidisha Agarwal, and independent writer Sunita Vijay – who praised the participants for their dedication and cultural expression through dance.

The event began with a warm welcome extended by the school’s Vice Principal, followed by the commencement of performances. The stage witnessed mesmerizing presentations of traditional folk dances from across India and various countries, as students displayed their talent and skill, captivating the audience.

One of the highlights of the event was the host school’s performance titled Wonder Rhythm, a Chinese dance choreographed by renowned Odissi dancer Mrs. Sharmila Bharati, depicting birds paying tribute to Lord Buddha.

The high level of creativity and excellence in all the performances made the judging process challenging. At the conclusion of the event, winners were announced:

Best Choreography: The Indian Public School

Outstanding Costumes and Presentation: Ann Mary School

Best Musical Interpretation: TonsBridge School

Overall Winners: 1st – St. Jude’s School, 2nd – Doon International, 3rd – Kasiga School


All judges appreciated the students’ dedication and hard work in preserving and promoting India`s cultural heritage through dance. They also emphasized the importance of events like Folk Vibes in instilling a sense of community and cultural pride among youth and commended Kasiga School for its commitment to promoting folk arts.

Headmaster of Kasiga School, Mr. Rashid Sharfuddin, expressed his joy over the success of the event and extended gratitude to the participants, judges, and teachers. He reiterated the school`s dedication to preserving and promoting India`s cultural legacy through diverse cultural and artistic platforms.

The celebration of traditional dances and enthusiastic participation of students reflected the grand success of Folk Vibes, and the event concluded with admiration for the beauty and diversity of Indian folk traditions.
