A CAG report has uncovered massive financial mismanagement in Uttarakhand, revealing misuse of funds meant for forest conservation on iPhones, laptops, and office decor.

The report, tabled in the Assembly, highlights irregularities in the forest and health departments and the Workers Welfare Board. Between 2017-2021, the board allegedly spent ₹607 crore without approval. Nearly ₹14 crore from the Compensatory Afforestation Fund (CAMPA) was diverted for office expenses instead of afforestation.

The report also flags unauthorized forest land transfers, delays in afforestation, and a poor 33% tree survival rate. In healthcare, it found expired medicines in hospitals and a severe shortage of specialist doctors.

While Congress has slammed the government over the findings, Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal has ordered a probe into the irregularities.
