Despite numerous instances of extraordinary bravery exhibited by children in Uttarakhand over the past year, none will be honored with the National Bravery Award this Republic Day.

The failure is attributed to bureaucratic inertia and a lack of proactive measures by various state government departments, which failed to submit nominations within the stipulated deadline.

The State Child Welfare Council diligently reached out to officials such as the SSP, DM, CEO, and Director of the Education Department across districts, urging them to nominate deserving children for the prestigious National Bravery Awards. The goal was to ensure that these young heroes receive the recognition they deserve on Republic Day. However, due to the negligence of several districts, nominations were not filed within the specified timeframe.

Highlighting the urgency to nominate children aged six to 18 years who displayed remarkable bravery between July 1, 2022, and September 30, 2023, the Council called on districts to submit names promptly.

Despite appeals, only Bageshwar district managed to file nominations by the deadline of October 31, 2023, leaving other districts unrepresented.

The disappointment looms large for the children and their families who anticipated national recognition for their acts of courage. Surely, it was a missed opportunity to celebrate these young heroes on the grand stage of the National Bravery Awards.
